Critical Thinking and You

Thursday we went to Buely library to learn how to use the resources a round the campus. Everyone had to look for and bring out a book that was about critical thinking and relates to their project. My project has to do with technology and how it effects our critical thinking.
Critical thinking is how we solve problems around us, it's how we create new ways to improve out quality of living. So, it is only natural that technology is a product of this way of thinking. Technology cripples our ability to think in depth about certain things like people's view on controversial issues. With the tons of message boards on the internet people develop their opinions based on other people's opinions and not just on the facts. This creates a bias that will only eventually weaken the critical thinking process. However, technology makes think more, broadens our understanding of the world around us. With out technology we wouldn't know about genetics or the research on stem cells. Technology has both benefited man-kind and killed us. The atomic bomb gave us the power to destroy ourselves with in a few minutes and gave us the power to create power to our homes and offices. With social media aspect of technology we can connect with old friends or make new ones. You don't have to know what the person looks like or what they do in real life to make a connection with that person. There are hundreds of thousands of message boards and social networking websites it is almost impossible to escape it.
